End of 2013, this is the time to make a new work plan for New Venture/Explorationist Geoscience and also time reflect past year activity. Did we utilize all of data? Did we achieve important acreage to sustain Industry growth?
Looking at new year, 2014, we need some refreshment and new work plan. A good work plan shall be guided by reflected of 2013 activity. Here is some note I took from several references about 2013.
If we want to look for crude oil, then start to map where is big proven crude oil reserves in the world? To answer this question, it is easier done by looking OPEC Annual Report for 2013. Based on report it is noted that top 5 crude oil reserves in the world are: Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait. As for my country, Indonesia rank 28 in the world, not bad either.
But then, I need natural gas, where to look them? Similar like how to look crude oil, it can be done by utilizing OPEC report about natural gas reserves. As noted there, top 5 proven natural gas are Russia, Iran, Qatar, Turkmenistan, and USA. Again, my country Indonesia rank 15 in the world seems natural gas did a good job compare to crude oil.
For more detail, please see figure 1 below. It consists of OPEC 2013 annual report.
Figure 1. showing world proven reserves (OPEC 2013).
Beside proven reserves, another factor should be respected is policy. Good policy which is applied in a country means sustainable growth can be expected. Several country applied high fiscal intake and stable regulation. Uncertain regulation will impact to loose investment return. This is bad for investor, money which is invested can be harvested in the end. Policy index data is provided by Frasser Institute (2013). It is summarized by map figure 2 below.
Figure 2. global investment climate map (frasser institute, 2013)
A lot of data were provided by several reliable sources. It just needs a way to mix them up to be something powerful inline our meet. As for me, I made some criteria, which are:
- Focus area: asia pacific country
- High proven reserves
- Good policy index
Based on criteria above, I made new graphic as figure 3 below. Basically, Frasser Institue only provide raw data and map data as figure 2 above. Then, transform raw data into excel data which consist of policy index, reserves (bboe), country name. By using buble graph tool in excel, frasser data can be imaged powerfully enough.
Figure 3. policy index and proven reserves (modified from Frasser Institute, 2013).
Figure 3 explains that Australia, Malaysia, Brunei, South Australia, New Zealand and Thailand are favorable to do upstream business. After all, to summarize figure 3, low policy index means good climate for upstream business activity, and bubble size shows reserves size. Big bubble means big reserves it has.
That is all I get today.
